The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been urged to start preparation for possible resumptions.
It could be recalled that the NYSC had shut down orientation camps nationwide and halted the deployment of fresh corp members since March 2020 as part of Nigeria’s measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
Following, the easing of restrictions put in place by the Federal Government to checkmate the spread of the pandemic in May 2020, the NYSC was asked in August 6, 2020 to commence putting things in place in accordance with NCDC protocols for the resumption of camp activities in phases.
The National Coordinator of PTF. Dr. Sani Aliyu made the call while addressing the media on the activities of the PTF on Covid19. He said that PTF will work closely with NYSC to make sure that everything is in place before the September 2020 presumed resumption time.
During the press briefing, the PTF coordinator announced the extension of the second phase of eased lockdown for another four weeks.
Dr. Aliyu decried the failure of Nigerians to adhere to safety measures put in place to combat the spread of COVID-19 leading to the four weeks extension.
He said that, non-pharmaceutical measures such as regular hand-washing, social distancing, and wearing face masks in public are regularly disregarded by many Nigerians. He cited disbelief, skepticism, negativity with regards to the COVID pandemic as causes of the noncompliance to the protocols.
Dr. Aliyu said the PTF have to introduce additional interventionist measures to improve compliance with our non-pharmaceutical protocols.”
