Real Madrid, one of Spain’s top football clubs, has taken legal action by filing a criminal complaint with Spanish prosecutors following a distressing incident of racist abuse directed at their Brazilian forward, Vinicius Junior, during a recent La Liga match.
The club has deemed this incident a “hate crime” and is determined to hold those responsible accountable.
In a statement, Real Madrid expressed strong condemnation for the events that unfolded during the match against Valencia, where Vinicius Junior, the 22-year-old Brazilian international forward, was specifically targeted.
The club emphasized that the racial abuse endured by Vinicius constitutes a hate crime, prompting them to file an official complaint with the prosecutors’ office.

Sadly, Vinicius Junior has been subjected to racial abuse on multiple occasions within the La Liga.
This recent incident occurred at Valencia’s Mestalla stadium, where a home supporter directed racist insults towards the player.
In response, Vinicius courageously pointed out the apparent culprit to the fans behind the goal, causing a delay in the match for several minutes during the second half.
Referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea intervened by engaging with stadium officials, who promptly made an announcement urging an end to the racist insults.
Play resumed only after a pause of approximately 10 minutes. In his post-match report, the referee documented that a fan had shouted derogatory remarks using racially offensive language, specifically referring to Vinicius as a “monkey.”
Regrettably, the game concluded with further controversy as Vinicius Junior was shown a red card in added time for his involvement in a brawl, during which he struck Valencia player Hugo Duro.
