Real Madrid has been crowned the world’s most valuable football team of 2022, according to Forbes, solidifying its financial prowess in the sport.

With a staggering valuation of $6.07 billion (£4.9 billion), the Spanish football powerhouse has claimed the top spot, surpassing competitors such as Manchester United and PSG, owned by Qatar.

Forbes highlighted Real Madrid’s remarkable success in the Champions League, having reached the finals five times in the last nine years and clinching victory in all of them. The club’s dominance on the European stage has played a significant role in boosting its overall value.

Interestingly, six out of the top 10 valuable clubs listed by Forbes are from the Premier League, showcasing the financial strength of English football. Additionally, Major League Soccer (MLS) has also made an impact, with seven of its clubs securing positions among the top 30.

Among the Spanish teams, only Real Madrid and their archrivals Barcelona have managed to secure spots in the top 10, underscoring their financial superiority within La Liga. Atletico Madrid is the sole representative from Spain in the top 30, ranked 13th with a value of $1.54 billion.

Forbes further explained that Real Madrid has recently secured a significant investment of nearly $400 million from Sixth Street and Legends. This infusion of capital is part of a 20-year agreement aimed at bolstering revenue at the club’s iconic Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Currently undergoing an extensive renovation, the stadium is slated to be completed by next year.
