Referee Jarred Gillett is set to don a camera during Monday’s Premier League showdown between Crystal Palace and Manchester United, officials have revealed.
The Premier League emphasized that while the camera feed won’t be aired live, it will be integrated into a forthcoming program aimed at providing deeper insights and understanding into the rigors of officiating at the pinnacle of English football.
Gillett will be equipped with a head-mounted device, seamlessly integrated into the standard referee communication system for high-profile fixtures.
The singular deployment of the camera has garnered approval from the sport’s governing body, the International Football Association Board (IFAB), as well as key stakeholders such as the Premier League and the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), alongside the participating clubs.
Expressing gratitude, the Premier League stated, “We extend our appreciation to Crystal Palace and Manchester United for their collaboration in this initiative”.
