RELIGIOUS ORGANISATIONS BLAMED FOR HIGH RATE OF CANCER DEATHS

Religious organisations have been blamed by the founder of Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN), Betty Akeredolu for the high rates of cancer-related deaths in the country.

The Ondo Governor’s wife while speaking on Wednesday at the Inter-School Arts Competition for secondary schools in Ibadan, Oyo State, said that it was regrettable to see how breast cancer patients shun medical treatment for spiritual healing.

She blamed most women for approaching churches, mosques and other places for automatic miracles, saying that they dir of ignorance because of these actions.

Insisting that cervical cancer is preventable as it is now easy to handle due to advanced research she recommended that young women go for HPV vaccination to prevent sexually transmitted infections which is a major cause of cervical cancer.
