It is feared that 22 of the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) ballots for the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers State have gone missing.
This was because more than 6865 of the machines that were sent to the state have been set up correctly for Saturday’s elections.
It was assembled that three of the certification machines were harmed past fixes, consequently can’t be utilized for the surveys.
Johnson Alalibo, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, assured reporters and election observers that the development would not affect the process.
According to Alalibo, the commission has sufficient back-up systems, and the absence of any would not affect the procedure in any way.
He stated that the electoral umpire would ensure that criminals would not use the missing devices.
The INEC’s REC further guaranteed that political race results would be transferred continuously after the democratic interaction, guaranteeing of a free and fair cycle.
However, Obinna Ebogidi, the State Representative of the YIAGA Africa, has urged INEC to guarantee their promise of sufficient machines.
Ebogidi stated, The REC let us know that 22 of the BVAS machines are missing while “6865 BVAS machines have been reconfigured in front of Saturday’s survey.
“Our concern is that the results from the polling units should be uploaded early to prevent a repeat of what happened in the last election.”
