In advance of the upcoming general elections, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who is also the standard bearer for Lagos state for the All Progressive Congress, APC, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintain strategic infrastructure investments to boost productivity, stimulate business growth, and safeguard private investments.
Sanwo-olu also discussed the State’s plans for economic redistribution, which include expanding the Lagos business district to suburbs in the western and eastern parts of the State, during an interactive meeting with the Organised Private Sector, or OPS, in Lagos.
The conversation was one of the strategic stakeholder engagements that Sanwo-Olu and the APC presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu started to keep business leaders and industry captains informed about the comprehensive economic policies.
The OPS meeting also included Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, Minister for Works and Housing, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Mr. Ben Akabueze, Director-General of the Federation’s Budget Office, and Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to Sanwo-Olu, the State’s economy’s steady growth rate demonstrates the effective supervision and accountability process for managing public finances.
According to the Governor, Lagos’ political philosophy was responsible for transforming its GDP from a deficit to a promising growth, which accounts for 30% of the nation’s GDP.
Sanwo-Olu said that the state was willing to invest more in climate-resilient infrastructure to ensure sustainability and more growth, given the state’s projected size and revenue.
In addition, Fashola stated that the complicated nature of Lagos’ governance had resulted in a system that typically produces administrators who are problem solvers rather than politicians who offer justifications.
The minister urged members of the business community to support presidential and governorship candidates objectively in the general election, pointing out that the long-term viability of Lagos’s governance model should continue to serve as a model for the nation to follow.
