The Senate has granted President Bola Tinubu’s request to appoint 20 special advisers, following its reading by Senate President Ahmad Lawan during a session in the upper legislative chamber on Tuesday.
Emphasizing the urgency of the matter, Lawan stated, “It is of utmost importance that the president has his team to work with. Since no specific names were provided for special advisers, we will approve the appointments accordingly. We believe this is a matter requiring immediate attention.”
Although the names of the 20 special advisers were not disclosed by Tinubu, this development follows his recent appointments. In an announcement titled ‘President Tinubu appoints Gbajabiamila COS, Sen. Ibrahim Hadejia, DCOS, George Akume, SGF,’ made by Abiodun Oladunjoye, the State House Director of Information, Tinubu appointed Femi Gbajabiamila, the outgoing Speaker of the House of Representatives, as his Chief of Staff.
Additionally, George Akume, former Minister of Special Duties, was appointed as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Furthermore, Sen. Ibrahim Hadejia, a former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, was chosen as the Deputy Chief of Staff.
The President’s announcement also included the appointment of George Akume, former Governor of Benue State and immediate past Minister of Special Duties, as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. This decision was made during a meeting with the Progressives Governors Forum.
With the Senate’s approval, President Tinubu can now proceed with the selection of his 20 special advisers, as he continues to shape his administration.
