Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing deep divisions and irreconcilable factions within the party. In a letter dated January 30 and addressed to PDP leaders in Aniocha North, Delta State, Nwoko expressed disappointment over the party’s internal conflicts, which he said have made unity and progress nearly impossible. He highlighted a recent incident on January 29, where party members engaged in physical altercations, further proving the extent of the crisis.

Despite his departure, Nwoko reaffirmed his commitment to serving his constituents, stating that the party’s fractured structure in Delta State has hindered his ability to fulfill campaign promises. He expressed gratitude to the PDP for providing him with a platform during the 2022/2023 senatorial elections but emphasized that stepping away was necessary to remain effective in his duties. He assured his supporters that his political journey would continue, with a focus on the progress and prosperity of Delta North and Nigeria.

Nwoko, who chairs the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations and serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Sports Development, maintained that his decision was made in the best interest of those he represents. While bidding farewell to the PDP, he extended his appreciation to party members for their support over the years and wished the party success in its future endeavours. His next political move remains undisclosed, but his resignation signals another major shake-up within the PDP.
