Senator Oshiomhole Presses for Nationwide N35,000 Worker Wage Before Christmas

Senator Adams Oshiomhole passionately appealed to the organized labor sector on Monday, emphasizing the crucial need for prompt payment of the N35,000 wage increase to all workers across Nigeria. His call aimed to alleviate the impact of petrol subsidy removal before the upcoming Christmas season.

Addressing the 8th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Non-Academics Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) in Abuja, the former President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and ex-governor of Edo State stressed that this payment was essential for both public and private sector employees. He highlighted that failure to disburse these funds should prevent employers from experiencing a peaceful Christmas celebration.

Oshiomhole underscored that the NLC’s decision regarding the wage increase must be upheld as a collective resolution rather than solely the president’s decision. He emphasized the necessity of uniform application across all states and sectors, urging that the N35,000 increment should reach every worker nationwide.

Additionally, President of NASU, Dr. Makolo Hassan, expressed gratitude for the federal government’s interim measure of approving a three-month wage award of N35,000 to federal employees. He urged remaining state governments to promptly announce and implement similar measures to support their employees affected by the fuel subsidy removal.

The passionate plea from Senator Oshiomhole highlighted the urgency and necessity for the uniform implementation of the N35,000 wage increase across all sectors before the festive season.
