Sevilla FC part ways with head coach Sampaoli : Club announces shocking decision

On Tuesday, struggling Sevilla coach Jorge Sampaoli was fired, leaving the club just above the relegation zone.

In a statement, the club said, “Sevilla FC have today relieved Jorge Sampaoli of his duties.”

“The club have decided to part ways with the Argentine coach before the international break, following the defeat at Getafe, which leaves the side just above the relegation zone.”

“Sevilla FC wishes Jorge Sampaoli the best of luck in his future and would like to thank him for his dedication and commitment at the club.”

The previous Chile and Argentina mentor joined Sevilla in October, however the club has neglected to shake off its disheartening mid-table structure.

In his second season with the club, Sampaoli was in charge of 31 matches, which included 13 wins, six draws, and 12 defeats.

With 28 points, Sevilla is 13th in La Liga, two points behind Getafe, who they lost 2-0 on Sunday, and Almeria, who hold two of the three relegation spots at the moment.

In the Europa League quarterfinals next month, Sevilla will play Manchester United, a team that has won the competition a record six times.
