The youths in the Gboko Local Government area have been protesting against the undeserved removal of the council chairman, who was among eight Council Chairmen and Vice chairmen who were suspended for 3 months from office by the Benue State House of Assembly over abuse of office, gross misconduct and misappropriation of funds.
Crisis began early as 7am when APC supporters came out in their numbers and as they moved to match into the main town they began razing down PDP billboards, flags and outlet offices. They were boldly confrontation by the PDP faithfuls, the boil confrontation led to a heated argument which resulted into a fight between supporters of both parties. The APC supporters seeing that they were outnumbered, they quickly went back to mobilise more supporters and they started burning motorbikes and cars branded in PDP colours. PDP supporters who saw this made sure they paid the APC in their own coin but were quickly called to order after a short moment. The deed had already been done as supporters have succeeded in burning down each others offices and rumours have it that there is no PDP flag or billboard standing in Gboko as at the tinkle of this report.
The police quickly intervened in the matter and have positioned themselves at strategic places to ensure that the situation is controlled. People in the community are still in fear that the PDP youths might stage a retaliation. The Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent Moses Yamu confirmed the development saying, a simliar incident almost played out in Kwande Local Government Area, before the suspended chairman, Terdoo Kenti, appealed to his supporters assuring them that he would seek legal redress.
No life was lost in the incident and all business outlets have been closed including the Gboko market.
