SIX POLICE OFFICERS DISMISSED IN KWARA STATE FOR ALLEGED MISCONDUCT

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, disclosed on Thursday in the state capital, Ilorin that six police officers have been dismissed in Kwara State over alleged acts of misconduct.

He also added that he approved the dismissal of another police officer on Wednesday for alleged professional misconduct.

Egbetokun, who declared that the police command under his watch would not condone indiscipline among its officers, said many other officers had been served various forms of punishment for professional misconduct.

The police commissioner revealed this at a stakeholders’ meeting held with the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Road Transport Employers Association, Tricycle Owners Association, Hotel Owners Association, Students Union leaders and Human Rights activists in the State.

He asserted that the command recorded 15 armed robbery cases between May and October 2020, with 27 suspects arrested and 15 AK-47 rifles recovered in the State.

The commissioner urged the stakeholders to talk to their members on the need to maintain existing peace and harmony in the State, saying that he was proud of the peaceful conduct exhibited so far by the youth during the End SARS protests.

Egbetokun said “The State had not witnessed cases of police extra-judicial killings, brutality and harassment, just as cases of police extortion have reduced drastically.”
