Former South African star named Philemon Masinga popularly known as “Chippa” reportedly gave up the ghost as a result of cancer on Sunday, 13th January in an hospital in Johannesburg.

Chippa, as he is popularly known played for English top side Leeds United in the 1990’s. Retired South African captain Lucas Radebe who played with Masinga claimed that the country has lost a great legend.

Radebe claims that Phil was a big hit with the team and the players. He further claimed that Masinga was his greatest inspiration. Philemon was said to be an easy going person and was highly respected at his club and as person.

Masinga played for a host of football clubs which includes St Gallen in Switzerland, Bari and Salernitana in Italy and Al wahda in the United Arab Emirates. He scored a total of 18 goals in 58 appearances in his entire international career between 1992 and 2001.
