On Friday night, the well-known South African rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting on Florida Road in Durban, South Africa.

Another person, possibly AKA’s bodyguard, was also wounded, according to reports. AKA’s close friend and another unidentified individual were also shot to death.

In a statement released on Saturday morning, the family of AKA also confirmed his passing.
It is generally accepted that AKA was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting while he was standing outside the Wish Restaurant.

Posts on social media indicate that AKA was scheduled to perform at the Durban nightclub YUGO, where he was expected to perform as part of his birthday celebrations, just before 10 p.m. Two unidentified cars are believed to have opened fire.

His close friends and coworkers have expressed shock on social media.
When an IOL team arrived Friday night, the area had been cordoned off by police.
AKA was said to have been outside Wish when he was shot and killed, according to stunned diners at a nearby restaurant.

A spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, Garrith Jamieson, stated that Florida Road had been closed following the shooting incident. Jamieson stated that one of the deceased was a “famous rapper.”

In 2010, the single “Victory Lap” from AKA’s debut studio album, Altar Ego, was released. This made AKA famous.

His fiancee, Anele Tembe, fell to her death from the Pepperclub Hotel’s 10th floor in central Cape Town, South Africa, in April 2021.

The long-awaited “Mass Country” album’s release date of February 24, 2023, was confirmed in AKA’s final social media post, which came just hours before his death.
