Irate students of the College of Health Sciences and Technology in Jega, Kebbi State, set the residence of the Provost, Alhaji Haruna Saidu-Sauwa, on fire in protest over alleged extortion of N23m. The unrest erupted following claims that the college management demanded an additional N65,000 for index registration, in addition to the N30,000 already paid by 250 graduating students of a new Public Health programme.

The provost, in his response, denied the accusations, calling them “fictitious and baseless.” He refuted claims of course duplication and extortion, emphasizing that all funds are managed through the Single Treasury Account, which he does not control. He further accused certain individuals of spreading false information to tarnish the college’s reputation.

Normalcy has since been restored to the institution after security forces intervened. The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the incident, with further details expected from local authorities.
