In a decisive ruling, the Supreme Court has upheld the election victory of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun. Ladi Adebutu and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the appellants in the case, had sought the court’s intervention to mandate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organize new elections in the 99 polling units where they claimed elections were nullified.

This legal battle stemmed from a prior split decision by the Appeal Court, Lagos Division, on November 24, 2023, which confirmed Abiodun’s re-election. The majority judgment, delivered by Justice Joseph Ikyegh, unequivocally dismissed the appeal filed by the PDP and its governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu.

In a firm and resolute lead judgment, Justice Tijani Abubakar of the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, solidifying Dapo Abiodun’s affirmed position as the governor of Ogun State.
