Taiwan’s Defence Minister, Chiu Kuo-cheng, confirmed on Monday that Washington is discussing a $500m separate and fast-tracked weapons package with Taipei.
The island’s defence minister says the package is meant to prioritise the supply of spot goods over any delay in arms procurement.
There have been reported delays in delivering weapons, and the fast-tracked package is expected to make up for these delays.
However, Chiu did not specify what equipment would be prioritised in the $500m weapons package, saying the details would be discussed by both sides soon.
The US has been selling weapons to Taiwan for decades.
