Tems, a world-renowned musician from Nigeria, has won her first Grammy for her work on Future’s smash hit single “Wait For U.” On the single, which also features Canadian megastar rapper Drake, Tems’ vocals were sampled.

Following her victory with “Wait For U,” Tems became the first female artist from the Nigerian music industry to win a Grammy. She joins Sade Adu, who won in 1986 for Best New Artist, and Cynthia Erivo, who won in 2017 for Best Theatre Album, as the only Nigerian women to win a Grammy.

Best Global Song Performance and Best Global Album were also up for grabs for Nigerian megastar Burna Boy. However, “Bayethe” by Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini, and Nomcebo Zikode won the award for Best Global Song, and “Sakura” by Masa Takumi won the award for Best Global Album.
