The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended three individuals in connection with the disappearance of a newborn baby’s placenta at a health centre. The suspects, whose true identities remain undisclosed, include a nurse, a health assistant, and a security officer. These individuals, who are employed by the state government, work at the Emure Ile Comprehensive Health Centre located in the Owo Local Government Area.
The incident came to light when a concerned family member realized that the hospital workers had failed to hand over the placenta after the baby’s delivery, which took place five days earlier. Mr. Tunde Ijanusi, the 23-year-old father, expressed his deep concern over the failure of the health workers to provide the placenta. He revealed that his baby girl was born on June 15, 2023, at the comprehensive health centre in Emure Ile, and since then, the placenta has not been given to them, causing considerable distress for the family.
In response to the situation, Mr. Ijanusi emphasized the need for appropriate actions to be taken to ensure that justice is served in this matter. Mrs. Funmilayo Ijanusi, the baby’s paternal grandmother, disclosed that the hospital staff had attributed the disappearance of the placenta to a dog that had supposedly entered the facility and taken it away. Additionally, the hospital personnel had been attempting to persuade the family to let go of the issue.
Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the state Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the investigation into the matter is currently underway. She stated, “The nurse, the health assistant, and the security officer are already in our custody while the investigation continues.”
