Jose Mourinho has labelled it a disgraceful decision to overturn Man City’s European ban.

Back in February it was announced that the Premier League club had received a two-year suspension from Europe and a €30million fine after breaking financial fair play rules.

With many expecting whoever finished the season in fifth to take the final spot in Europe’s top competition instead of City, the Court of Arbitration for Sport announced on Monday that their ban had been overturned and leaving them free to compete in the Champions League next season.

However, City were still hit by an eye-watering €10m fine despite their successful appeal.

Spurs boss Mourinho was quizzed about Monday’s news in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s game against Newcastle United and he didn’t hold back in his assessment of the decision.

When asked if City got lucky, he said: “Maybe they got unlucky. Maybe they don’t deserve to be punished by one single pound and they were punished in eight or nine million. Maybe they were unlucky.

“Maybe they’re a victim, maybe they did nothing wrong and they’re a victim of paying so many millions for nothing. Maybe they are the victims.”

Asked if Spurs need financial fair play to compete, he claimed: “Spurs is Spurs, and I don’t think Spurs change its mentality which in many aspects is more than correct. I am happy with the way we think here. And for me that’s just it.

“I think it’s going to be the end of FFP, because there is no point. And I repeat, and it’s the only thing I repeat because it’s clear in my mind: if City is not guilty, the decision is a disgrace.
