The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) acted swiftly early yesterday, capturing a reckless private car driver responsible for the tragic death of an innocent pedestrian in Ogba, Lagos.
A press statement from Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, revealed that the fatal accident occurred around Yaya Abatan, near College Road, Ogba, Ikeja. Preliminary investigations indicated that the driver of the unregistered white Mercedes Benz (CLA 250) lost control due to over speeding, fatally striking a passerby who died on the spot.
LASTMA personnel managed to apprehend the driver, who attempted to flee upon realizing the severity of the accident. Commander Akinola Ganiyu, overseeing the Agege/Iju-Ifako axis, led LASTMA’s rescue team. The reckless driver was subsequently handed over to the police from Area ‘G’ Police Command, present at the accident scene, for further investigations.
Clearing the vehicle promptly for unhindered traffic flow, the deceased’s family later arrived to claim the body. Bolaji Oreagba, LASTMA’s General Manager, issued a caution to the motoring public, emphasizing the need to avoid over-speeding and comply with road signs, especially during the ‘Ember Months.’
