The White House has announced tighter travel restrictions for certain countries that it says don’t do enough to fight terrorism or check travelers properly. These countries reportedly struggle with identifying visitors, keeping criminal records, and working closely with the U.S. on visa security.
Officials also pointed out that high numbers of people from these countries tend to overstay their visas, making the U.S. more cautious about who they allow in. The move is part of a broader push for tougher immigration rules.
This new order follows President Trump’s earlier efforts to clamp down on immigration during his second term. On January 20, he signed a document telling federal agencies to apply stricter checks on foreigners and review countries that may need to be banned due to weak security practices.
The move brings back memories of Trump’s first-term travel ban, which focused on several Muslim-majority countries and was approved by the Supreme Court in 2018. That ban was later scrapped in 2021 by President Biden, who called it a dark chapter in U.S. history.
