With only few hours left to Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections, the United Kingdom has adviced the Independent National Electoral Commission to be impartial in the elections.
Ms Catriona Laing, the Bristish high commissioner released a broadcast via its twitter handle where she admonished Nigerians not be discouraged despite the postponement of the election.
She was quoted saying, “Tomorrow is voting day again. We recognise the huge disappointment of Nigerians since they woke up last Saturday to hear the news that the elections had been postponed. But your votes still count. It’s your chance to make a difference, not just to vote for the politicians of your choice, but also to play your part in Nigeria’s emerging democracy, helping to consolidate the progress since 2015”.
Laing also disclosed that the UK is very interested in the elections happening in Nigeria as it has sent over 60 observers to monitor the election across 15 states to monitor the election.
She further pleaded with INEC and other security agencies not to be partial during the exercise. She urged them to support the activities of democracy.
