UNIBEN Mourns: Campus community condemns brutal killing of student

The killing of a University of Benin, Edo State, senior known as Mayor has been condemned by the administration.

At 9 p.m. on Monday, Mayor, a student in the Department of Public Administration, was shot in the face from close range.

He was also the school’s Kegite chief.

In a statement on Tuesday, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, UNIBEN’s Public Relations Officer, said that management was collaborating closely with the police and internal security to catch the killer.

“The brutal and sad killing of a final year male student known mostly as ‘Mayor’ (real name withheld) on the night of Monday 3rd April, 2023 has been condemned by the management of the University of Benin,” the statement read.

“The horrifying shooting happened in one of the corridors of home and was done by yet to be recognized shooter.”

The management urged the other students to remain calm as they spoke with the student’s family and colleagues.

“The executives is additionally working intimately with the inner security units in guaranteeing that such devious episode doesn’t happen again inside the college’s premises,” the assertion added.
