The United States has revealed on Thursday that it was imposing visa restrictions on Ghana. The African country was accused of not cooperating in accepting its citizens ordered to be removed from the United States.
The department of Homeland security, in a statement disclosed that Pompeo, the U.S. Secretary of State, ordered consular officers in Ghana to implement visa restrictions on certain categories of visa applicants. The sanctions may be expanded if there is no appropriate response from Ghana.
The secretart of the Department of Homeland security, Kirstjen Nielsen, has said that Ghana has failed to live up to its obligations under international law to accept the return of its nationals ordered removed from the United States. She added that she hopes the Ghanaian government will work with them to reconcile these deficiencies quickly.
