Manchester United interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has had a remarkable impact since replacing Jose Mourinho has won the Premier League’s Manager of the Month award for the month of January, while in form striker, Marcus Rashford clinched the player of the month award. It is the first time since January 2011 that United have won both awards in the same month with Alex Ferguson and Dimitar Berbatov taking them home on that occasion.
Solskjaer who has enjoyed a stellar month at the Manchester club has presided over seven wins in eight league matches. Rashford on the other hand has been vital since the arrival of Solskjaer, with the England international instantly getting a starting berth ahead of United’s first-choice striker ahead of Romelu Lukaku.
Although United were rarely spectacular in January, they won three of their four matches and came from 2-0 down at home to Burnley to rescue an unlikely point at the end of the month. That form has helped United climb above Arsenal in the Premier League table, and they can overtake Chelsea should they secure a win against struggling Fulham on Saturday.
The premeir league goal of the month award went to Fulham’s Andre Schurrle for his stunning volley against Burnley, though Sean Dyche’s men won the match eventually.
