The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) has extended its strike ultimatum to the Federal Government by two weeks.
Both unions had earlier issued a seven-day deadline over unresolved welfare issues, including what they described as the unfair disbursement of earned allowances and the non-payment of outstanding entitlements. They warned that failure to address the concerns could trigger a nationwide strike.
In a letter signed by SSANU President, Muhammed Ibrahim, the unions recalled that they had written to the government since June 18, 2025, demanding action. That petition led to a meeting with the Minister of Education on July 4, but the issues remain unresolved.
The unions said the latest extension followed another round of talks with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Abel Enitan, on September 19. According to them, the two-week window is to allow the government time to act before workers resort to industrial action.
“Our members are growing restless,” the leadership stated in a circular to chapters nationwide. “If urgent steps are not taken to address these matters, we will have no choice but to proceed with legitimate industrial actions.”
