Latest reports indicate that the death toll in the floods that have ravaged parts of North Western Nigeria have risen to over 70.

Damage has been extensive, and hundreds have been rendered homeless. Although the federal government has promised to compensate the victims, our correspondt says that there has yet been no evidence of a massive effort on the part of the Federal government disaster relief agency.

There may be no letup in the rising toll of casualties and damage. Meteorological reports indicate that more rains are in the offing.
