Joe Biden, the president of the United States, has said that Nigerians should have a chance to vote in peaceful and credible general elections in 2023.Biden made the call via his official Twitter handle, urging all candidates to honor the results of the election and support a peaceful transition.“All Nigerians ought to have the opportunity to select their new leader through a free, just, open, peaceful process.He tweeted on Thursday, “As election day nears, I urge the political parties and candidates to live up to their promise to respect the results of the election and support a peaceful transition.”The position taken by diplomatic missions in a previous joint statement was reiterated in Biden’s message.We urge parties to adhere to electoral laws and institutions and to take a firm stance against their supporters’ violence and hate speech.
