After the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced a one-week extension, registration for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) in 2023 has ended.

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, made this clear in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

It is important to recall that the board granted the extension to accommodate candidates who were unable to register for the 2023 UTME within the permitted window of January 14 to February 14 due to recent events in the country.

Benjamin stated that approximately 1.6 million candidates had successfully registered for the 2023 UTME at the end of the registration period.

“The Direct Entry portion of the exercise, which began on Monday, February 20, 2023, but was put on hold on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, is not included in this number.

“On the final day of the exercise, the board registrar’s monitoring team, which had traveled across the country, was in the states of Nasarawa and Delta to oversee its conclusion.

The team went to Trinity Innovation Hub CBT Center in Asaba, Delta State; Centers 1 and 2 of Ogwashi-Uku CBT at Delta State Polytechnic; CBT, among other things, Delta State Library

He stated, “It was, however, remarkable that none of these centers had candidates awaiting registration, indicating that almost all candidates who desired to register for the exercise had done so.”

Benjamin went on to say that the same thing happened in many centers in Nasarawa State because few candidates were seen a day before the deadline and were cleared before work ended.

He says that everything points to this year’s exercise being the smoothest the board has ever had.

“However, the board will review its SIM number swap policy based on reports received from the various monitoring teams across the country.

“This is on the grounds that it will currently require the Telcos to affirm that the old SIM being advanced for trading recently had a place with the candidate however had been given to someone else,” he said.

The spokesperson for the JAMB added that as a result, the possibility of a “SIM welcome back” before such swapping would be approved would not be possible.
