Nyesom Wike, ex-Rivers State Governor and now FCT Minister, dropped a bombshell in Abuja on Wednesday. He told reporters that if the Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly sacks Governor Siminalayi Fubara, nothing big will happen. Wike said Fubara’s done wrong, like holding back lawmakers’ pay for months and if the Assembly wants to kick him out, it’s fine by the constitution, not a crime.
Wike laughed off fears of chaos, saying, “People talk like if they impeach him, law and order will crash, nonsense! Nothing will shake.” He slammed Fubara’s letter to the lawmakers as weak and backed the Assembly’s right to act after the Supreme Court’s big ruling on February 28. That court call said Amaewhule’s crew is the real deal and should get back to work, even freezing state funds until they do.
The ex-governor’s not sweating it. He said the Assembly could’ve waited for six months post-ruling, but they’re pushing peace instead. The Supreme Court also trashed Fubara’s October 2024 local elections, leaving him in a tight spot.
