A three day strike has been embarked upon by the Zimbabwe congress of Trade Union which is the country’s largest labour federation. Upon hearing the news of the proposed hike in pump price, people who reside in Harare’s Mabvuku and Epworth have reacted violently and showed that they do not conform with what the government has decided.

Reports have it that people have come out in their numbers to protest by baricading major roads, preventing transport vehicles from operating and some even went to the extent of throwing stones at moving vehicles. MDC, which is the opposition party in Zimbabwe and some prominent activists have supported the show brought up by the people.

The spokesperson of the government, Nick Mangwana claims that opposition party, foreign organisations and some civic groups are trying to use the fuel shortage and price increase to topple the government. The people of Zimbabwe have directed their anger at President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who replaced the long serving Robert Mugabe in November 2017. They claimed that he has gone back on his promise of making life better for Zimbabweana, therefore, he must leave. This is Zimbabwe’s worst economic crisis in a decade.
