A Resurgent Militancy In The Niger Delta? Has The 7-Month Ceasefire Ended?

Reports from Yenagoa say that Niger Delta agitators have signalled a return to hostilities in the oil-rich region and called off the subsisting 7 month ceasefire with the federal government brokered in November last year.

The reports generated shock-waves in petroleum circles in Nigeria in  view of plans to increase crude oil production by almost 180 thousand barrels.

Claiming the federal government was inciting violent reactions, the militants cited what they described as the latest ‘provocative plan’ to build a $2 billion refinery in Katsina, home state of President Buhari. In their words, ‘’The establishment of a refinery that will refine …oil without ( Warri and Port Harcourt working) mark the end of oil exploration in the Niger Delta. The shall fight with the last drop of our blood to have a 100 percent control of our God-given resources.
