The vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Peter Obi, has pointed an accusing finger at the Independent National Electoral Commission for intentionally disenfranchising over eight million eligible voters in the South-East during the February 23 presidential election.
He claimed that it was evident the election was programmed to ensure that the South East zone did not participate fully. This allegation was made on Tuesday at a press conference which held in Onitsha, Anambra State. He stated that the zone had well over 10 million voters but only about 20 percent of them were able to cast their votes.
His major pain was the fact that the whole election process was clumsy as most of the card readers were malfunctioning. The records of burnt card readers stood at over 4,000 and INEC didn’t allow people vote manually in the South East zone something that gives Peter Obi great worry.
Obi noted that Nigeria failed to build on its achievements of the 2015 general election.
