BALDWIN CONGRATULATES BUHARI ON HIS RE-ELECTION AND CONFIRMS AUTHENTICITY OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

The United Kingdom Government has given its verdict and has therefore confirmed that the results of the presidential election as released by the Independent National Electoral Commission were authentic and without errors.

Harriet Baldwin the British Minister of State for Africa, reiterated that the results of the election were consistent and were results obtained through the civil society Parallel Vote Tabulation process. The UK has advised Nigerians to have confidence in the result.

INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, announced the result of the election that brought about the re-election of President Buhari very early on Wednesday morning, Buhari won with about 15,191,847 votes. His main challenger, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, scored 11, 262,978 votes.

PDP agents at the collation centre were reported to have declined to sign the results. Also Alhaji Atiku also rejected the verdict and said has threatened to challenge it in the court. In a press conference on Wednesday, Atiku ramped up the rejection by raising issues of ‘statistical impossibility’ about the results in some states of Nigeria.

Despite the situation of things, Baldwin has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on securing a second term as president. Baldwin didnt forget to commended Nigerians for their resilience and commitment to democracy.
