The Ekiti state government has now banned all gatherings of more than 20 people in the state until further notice. The restrictions take effect from Monday, January 11, 2021.
The Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Hon Akinbowale Omole, in Ado Ekiti disclosed this. He further explained that the decision was reached due to increase in COVID-19 cases.
He emphasized the need for the state government to prevents it’s people from the second wave of the pandemic.
The Commissioner called on people of the state to strictly adhere to COVID-19 protocols by; wearing their nose masks properly, washing their hands with soap, use hand sanitizer regularly and maintain social distancing.
He added that the curfew will be strictly enforced, and only people who are on essential services will be exempted.
Omole while speaking on the issue affecting worship centres, said government permits two services to take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday accordingly but must not extend beyond 2pm.
He noted that the religious centres must take the temperature of worshippers and must also provide soap for washing of hands and also hand sanitisers.
The Commissioner said compliance to the directives will be enforced by the State Covid-19 Response Committee.
