Women stage bold protest at US Embassy, baring it all over 2023 election concerns

On Monday, some displeased women staged a half-naked protest against the outcome of the 2023 presidential election in front of the United States Embassy in Abuja.

The Free Nigeria Movement’s female members were at the US Embassy to report an alleged election fraud that occurred during the 2023 elections.

Armed with a variety of placards, the protesters urged the US government to prohibit visas for the poll violence instigators.

“Members of the U.S. diplomatic mission observed the elections in Lagos and other locations recently and witnessed some of these incidents firsthand.  Particularly concerning was the use of ethnically charged rhetoric prior to, during, and after the Lagos gubernatorial election.

“We affirm Nigerians’ commitment to and respect for the democratic process and commend all Nigerian political actors, religious and community leaders, youth, and citizens who have chosen to reject such violence and speak out against it.

“We ask Nigerian authorities to hold those who have ordered or carried out efforts to intimidate voters and prevent them from voting during the election accountable and bring them to justice.

Additionally, the United States will consider any and all options, including imposing additional visa restrictions, on individuals who are believed to be complicit in or responsible for subverting Nigeria’s democratic process.

“The United States, along with other international observers, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to improve the voting processes and technical components that experienced flaws in the February 25 national elections.  The March 18 elections appear to have seen significant operational advancements, as most polling places opened on time and the majority of results were displayed promptly on an electronic viewing platform.

“The United States reiterates its call for any challenges to election results to be resolved in accordance with established legal procedures that cannot be circumvented.”  We further require Nigeria’s kin to cooperate as they take part in and keep on fortifying the country’s energetic vote based system”, it added.
