MC Olumo takes a stand against violence: bans tax collection in areas of Lagos after driver-agbero clash

Musiliu Akinsaya, more commonly referred to as Mc Oluomo, is the Chairman of the Lagos State Parks and Garages Association. He has intervened in the dispute between highway tax collectors who target commercial drivers, or agberos in the state.

He has likewise prohibited assortments of unlawful assessments exacted by agberos in some piece of the state.

Remember that on Thursday, commercial bus drivers protested the agberos’ extortion in the state.

When we met with Mc Oluomo at the state council on Thursday afternoon, he informed us that drivers traveling from Oshodi to Tollgate no longer have to pay illegal agbero taxes.

“We are just to purchase two tickets in a day, after which we won’t pay anything beside stacking charges.

“The typical ticket that is sold and approved by the management of Lagos State Park costs just N800.

He stated that the additional taxes imposed at Agbado Ijaiye and Iyana Ipaja no longer applied. Our daily tickets can be purchased at Tollgate or Oshodi, and both will be recognized.

A driver told disclosed that ticket and booking for security, which is about N500.

He added that MC Oluomo has said the drivers would never again pay for tickets on Saturdays and Sundays.

He stated, “Mc Oluomo has mandated that no driver be forced to buy tickets on Saturdays and Sundays for weekend jobs.”

We should only be required to purchase tickets from Monday through Friday by the union. It should be possible for us to bring something back to our families.

He went on to say that MC Oluomo had also given N1 million to those who had been hurt in the attack on protesting drivers. He was happy to hear that dreivers will resume work today “with minimal agbero disturbances.”

There are no more tax burdens. In comparison to the previous payment of N20,000, all we have to pay in a single day is a little less than N2,500,” he added.
