Mass Arrests Unfold as Delta State Police Disrupt Alleged Same-Sex Wedding

The Delta State Police Command has taken action against an event suspected to be a same-sex wedding ceremony, resulting in the arrest of over 100 individuals. The incident took place at a hotel within the state, prompting law enforcement to intervene. Making the announcement through their official Facebook page, the state police indicated their intention to hold a public parade of the detained individuals.

Delta State’s law enforcement division disclosed, “Delta State Command has apprehended a significant number of individuals involved in what is believed to be a same-sex wedding event held at a hotel. We are preparing to broadcast a live stream on Facebook to showcase the apprehended individuals,” the post read.

This incident takes place in the context of the anti-gay law, which was enacted in 2014, leading to the apprehension and public display of individuals associated with homosexual activities by security forces in the country. It should be noted that a previous incident occurred on December 31, 2021, when law enforcement undertook a crackdown on a group of individuals involved in homosexual activities within a concealed establishment in Isolo, Lagos.

Similarly, in 2022, 19 young individuals were detained in Kano for their alleged involvement in attending a same-sex wedding event.
