Bobrisky Detained by EFCC for Alleged Naira Abuse and Currency Mutilation

Controversial social media personality Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, found himself in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of abusing the Nigerian currency, specifically involving the spraying and mutilation of naira notes.

Bobrisky’s arrest unfolded in Lagos on Wednesday night, marking another chapter in a series of controversies surrounding the cross-dresser. Confined within the walls of the Lagos Command of the EFCC, Bobrisky awaits impending legal actions, according to Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson.

Confirming the detention, Oyewale stated, “Bobrisky is with us. He was arrested last night in Lagos and he is at our Lagos command. We arrested him for alleged abuse of naira notes, spraying of naira notes, and currency mutilation, among others.”

The EFCC’s stance on preserving the integrity of the national currency was further reiterated. Oyewale emphasized, “We are very serious about restoring the dignity of the naira. Though our investigation is still ongoing, but he will definitely be charged to court soon.”

In an official statement titled “EFCC Grills Bobrisky for Naira Abuse,” shared on the commission’s social media platforms, the EFCC disclosed its investigative focus on Bobrisky’s involvement in spraying Naira notes. The investigation stemmed from a viral video capturing Bobrisky flaunting bundles of new Naira notes at a movie premiere held at Film One Circle Mall, Lekki, Lagos on March 24, 2024.

Further probing revealed similar occurrences at other event venues and parties, amplifying the gravity of the alleged offense. Bobrisky cooperated with the EFCC upon receiving an invitation, presenting himself for interrogation at the Lagos Zonal Command.

The EFCC concluded the statement by affirming, “He will soon be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.”
