House of Representatives Moves to Reinstate Old National Anthem

On Thursday, the House of Representatives approved a bill aiming to bring back the country’s former national anthem. The proposal, spearheaded by House Leader Julius Ihonvbere, passed both its second and third readings during a plenary session in Abuja.

The bill, which has garnered significant attention, reflects a growing sentiment among some lawmakers to reconnect with the nation’s historical roots. Ihonvbere emphasized the cultural and historical significance of the old anthem, arguing that its restoration would inspire a renewed sense of patriotism.

With the House’s approval, the bill will now proceed to the Senate for concurrence. If it passes there, it will be sent to the president for final assent, marking a significant shift in the nation’s symbolic identity.
