CORRUPTION PERCEPTIONS INDEX 2017

The corruption perception index, CPI, for 2017 released by TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL, made depressing reading. According to the world body; corruption in Nigeria has worsened since 2016, when the new federal government took over. Nigeria was ranked 136th out of 180 countries surveyed in 2016.

In 2017, Nigeria has dropped to 148. New Zealand came first, Denmark second; Finland, Norway and Switzerland shared third position.

Sub-Saharan African countries that ranked higher than Nigeria are Botswana, whose joint 34 position is the best in Africa, as well as Rwanda (joint 48) and Namibia (joint 53). An extract from the report is reproduced below.
