ICPC Apprehends Man in Bauchi with N2m in a Mix of Old and New Currency Notes


In the Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission has detained a man in possession of N2 million in both old and new naira notes.

On Friday, the suspect, Hassan Ahmad, was stopped while driving a tinted Hilux with the cash in a “Ghana Must Go” bag.

When he was taken into custody, he was traveling from Bauchi State to Gombe. It was said that the money was going to a politician.

This was made public by the anti-graft agency in a series of tweets titled “” on its Twitter account, @icpcnigeria. N2m, which is being delivered to a politician, is held by the ICPC.

The suspect was said to have been stopped by troops from the 33 Artillery Brigade, who went by the code name: The ICPC was given command of Operation Safe Conduct after it was deployed to the Alkaleri LGA in Bauchi.

The suspect was reportedly in possession of N900,000 in new notes and N1.1 million in old notes, according to the Commission. 
The politician’s identity was not, however, made public by the agency.

It read, ” In the midst of the country’s current cash crunch, Hassan Ahmad, who was in possession of two million naira in both old and new currency, has been taken into custody by the ICPC’s Bauchi State Office.

“The suspect was handed over to the Bauchi State Office of the anti-graft agency on Friday after being arrested by the Troops of 33 Artillery Brigade Operation Safe Conduct deployed to Alkaleri in Bauchi State.

“Ahmad was carrying N900,000 in new naira notes and N1.1 million in old naira notes in a tinted black Hilux with the registration number JMA 85 AZ. The funds were being transported.

“The funds, which were contained in a “Ghana Must Go” bag, consist of six bundles of new N600,000 notes worth one thousand naira each; six bundles of brand-new 500 naira notes worth N300,000 and old 200 naira notes worth N1.1 million.

“The suspect has admitted that the funds were being moved to Gombe State for a politician,” according to the report.
