DStv’s Multichoice Unable to Broadcast AFCON 2023

Multichoice, the parent company of DStv, confirmed that the highly anticipated African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, starting on January 13th, will not be available for broadcast on its SuperSport channels due to the satellite’s inability to secure the broadcasting rights.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Multichoice stated, “SuperSport Channel will not be airing AFCON 2023 as the channel couldn’t secure the broadcasting rights for the tournament. However, fans can catch the AFCON 2023 games through partner broadcast stations available on Free to Air (FTA) channels.”

Despite this development, Multichoice Africa assured its commitment to providing football enthusiasts across the continent with access to other renowned football competitions, such as the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, the Zambian Super League, and more, through its DStv and GOtv platforms.

The 34th edition of AFCON is set to commence on January 13th in Ivory Coast, where three-time winners Nigeria will compete against host nation Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea in Group A.

Nigeria’s national team, the Eagles, eager to claim their fourth continental title, will kick off their Group A campaign against Equatorial Guinea on January 14th, followed by matches against Ivory Coast on January 18th and Guinea Bissau on January 22nd.
