With these triumphs, Nigeria’s overall medal count in athletics soared to 11 gold, six silver, and four bronze, totaling an impressive 21 medals.

Olajide’s silver marked a milestone as she completed a full set of medals at the 2023 Games, showcasing her prowess on the track. Meanwhile, Consider’s bronze in the men’s 200m added to his earlier gold with the men’s 4x100m relay team, solidifying his status as a rising star.

Following Olatoye’s bronze in shot put, Nnamdi’s remarkable performance in javelin earned him gold, surpassing his own national record. The women’s 4x400m relay team continued Nigeria’s winning streak, clocking a time of 3:27.29.

Despite a valiant effort by the men’s 4x400m relay team, securing Nigeria’s fastest time since 2004, they settled for bronze, with Gambia clinching the gold and setting a Games record.

Ethiopia and South Africa trailed behind Nigeria in the athletics standings, highlighting Nigeria’s dominance in the event.
